The documentary Honoring Amílcar sheds light on the legacy of one of Africa’s most visionary anti-colonial leaders: Amílcar Cabral, whose name and transformative impact remain largely unknown in the Western world. Through personal narrative and powerful interviews with Black activists from Cape Verde and the United States, Honoring Amílcar explores Cabral’s lasting influence on today’s social justice movements and the intergenerational group of artists, scholars, educators, and organizers keeping these movements alive. The film is as much a personal exploration of Amílcar’s enduring impact on his descendants, as it is a piercing call to action in the ongoing fight for the collective liberation of all Black and colonized peoples.
